Switching from Magento?

Support for Magento 1 Open Source ends in June 2020, leaving existing users with the expensive prospect of a migration to Magento 2.

We're here to make the case for Saleor. We want to show you why you can confidently exit the best platform for the last ten years in favour of the best platform for the next ten.

Like to learn more? Start by evaluating the cost of Magento 2 against the best alternative modern platforms on the market.

The last ten years with Magento

There are good reasons why tens of thousands of businesses have built their stores using Magento’s open source. Product Types, Attributes, Pricing & Quoting, Customer Types, Dealer-Wholesale Models, Attribute Sets, Globalisation Features, Shipping Schedules, Multi-Store Support...

In choosing Magento OS, developers were able to leverage Magento's business features to deliver websites more affordably than fully-custom solutions, using in-house developers or third-party vendors to extend core functionalities with relative ease.

We've built Magento stores ourselves and admire the community's contributions to e-commerce over the years. But, in 2019, there are advances in technology that Magento cannot harness due to its aging codebase and stack. The release of Magento 2 was billed as the answer but store owners rightly question if it has solved the fundamental problem of technological debt-and if the performance gains justify the cost.

The last two years with Magento

In 2018, Adobe purchased Magento “to be seamlessly integrated into the Adobe Experience Cloud.” This has led to concern for the open source viability of Magento as Adobe will likely push its Experience Cloud to pay back the $1.67 B acquisition cost. For now, Adobe leadership publicly expresses support for the open source version of Magento 2, but the exit of Mark Lavelle, the CEO who oversaw eight years of Magento's most explosive growth, has led to significant doubt among some members of the Magento open source community.

What's more, Magento has a large and loyal fanbase but even users attached to Magento's signature features like flexible product types, mass updating of product attributes, and complex pricing, are coming to realize that they need all those features plus a more modern platform than Magento 2 if they want to continue pushing the envelope.

The next ten years with Saleor + Round Table
