Devonport Oval Scoreboard Upgrade

New life for an iconic scoreboard

In late 2023 Round Table was awarded the tender to replace the ageing scoreboard at Devonport Oval. We listened to the objectives of the Devonport City Council, and the wider sporting community, and seized the opportunity to not only upgrade the LED screen hardware, but modify the entire screen structure - creating a 16:9 screen ratio and a greater visitor experience.

Working with a number of local companies, Round Table managed the scoreboard upgrade from start to finish, ensuring the project ran on time and on budget. We sourced appropriate LED hardware from our partner Absen LED and designed a new screen support structure to accommodate a larger, 16:9 ratio display. To ensure safe and efficient working conditions, we removed the screen from it’s position above the scoring building, setting it down in a designated work site at ground level. Once safely on the ground, we removed the old screen hardware, managed the modification of the screen structure, installed the new LED hardware before craning the entire structure back into position. Once reinstated, new cladding was installed before the screen was commissioned and operational training was provided to the Devonport council and local sporting clubs.

Given the Devonport Oval’s proximity to the sea, and the screens northerly aspect, we paid particular attention to brightness, durability and longevity when sourcing LED hardware. The 6mm pixel pitch Absen screen provides peace of mind through it’s high quality construction, IP ratings and conformal coating on internal components.

Nick and James exceeded our expectations with their first-rate service and management, and their holistic approach ensured a comprehensive overhaul during our recent project at Devonport City Council.

Where others were looking at a simple electronic refit, RTS were happy to engage with local contractors for the removal of the structure and remedial works, working alongside and overseeing the entire process from start to finish.

From the equipment and installation right through to the end-user experience, their commitment to quality craftsmanship was evident.

Their expertise and clear communication ensured there were no delays or variations, and a potentially complicated project became straightforward and seamless.
